Forget New York, it’s all about New Delhi in Aisha, a film produced by Anil Kapoor which also stars his daughter Sonam. It follows the tale of Jane Austen’s Emma in which our lead girl – Aisha – sees nothing wrong when it comes to meddling in other people’s love lives. Beautiful, rich and a social butterfly, Aisha gets away with it until Arjun (played by Abhay Deol) comes along on a mission to take her down a peg or two. Set in Delhi’s upper-class society, Aisha is modern, fun and funny. And the outfits aren’t too bad either.
The film is directed by hip Indian female director, Rajshree Ojha, and there’s a really cool interactive website featuring the trailer and songs to whet our appetite while we wait for the film’s release.
Bollywood’s number one hero Akshay Kumar is back on our big screens this summer in Khatta Meetha, a tangy tasting comedy to get you smacking your lips and savouring the taste of Indian comedy at its best. Akshay has teamed up once again with director Priyadarshan to bring us a formula in film comedy that sits well with audiences whilst also giving some catchy songs, via a soundtrack composed by Pritam.
Khatta Meetha tells the story of a struggling road construction contractor who doesn’t have the money to play the game of bribery to get ahead in his business. While Akshay’s character, Sachin, strives to get work done and to pay his workers one time, his brother happily succeeds by paying corrupt municipal officials to pass his contracts, making Sachin a disappointment in the eyes of his family.
One day, Sachin hears that there is a new municipal commissioner in town and he vows to get that person on his side but – and here’s where our heroine enters the story – the commissioner is his college sweetheart. And they did not end on good terms. Played by Tamil cinema’s starlet Trisha Krishnan, Sachin also has the new commissioner against him and his life just gets that little bit harder.
